Former West Indian cricketer and legendary fast bowler Curtly Ambrose said on Thursday that he was very excited to be in Pakistan for the start of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“It has been fantastic. I am having a great time and looking forward to enjoying the rest of my time here,” said Ambrose in an interview with DawnNewsTV. Ambrose is currently visiting the country in a personal capacity.
Ambrose, who represented West Indies at the highest level from 1988-2000 taking 405 scalps in 98 Tests, also expressed excitement about the return of cricket in the country.
“It has been about 10 years or so since there was regular international cricket in Pakistan and I know Pakistanis are starved for cricket and they want their cricket here. So I’m very excited to see that cricket is back [in the country] and that’s one of the reasons I’m here as well to show the rest of the world that it’s okay to come to Pakistan to play cricket and watch cricket,” the pacer said.
Upon being asked what his most memorable moment against Pakistan was from his playing days, Ambrose remarked that he always enjoyed bowling against the country’s batsmen because they were some of the best in world cricket.
When he was asked about Pakistani batsman Babar Azam, Ambrose said “Babar is an excellent talent” but that he preferred to talk about team unity rather than singling out individual talents. In a message to fans in Pakistan, the former fast bowler said: “Enjoy the PSL. It’s nice to be in Pakistan and it’s exciting to see cricket in Pakistan.”
