Time was when a model girl remained in the headlines for quite a long time after she was caught red handed at an airport in possession of US dollars which she was carrying to Dubai. A case of money laundering was registered against her. It was alleged that was a regular visitor to Dubai and was carrier of US dollars of important political personalities. The concernced airport authorities at the bidding of those political authorities looked the other way and didn’t touch her.
For quite sometime now there is a meaningful silence in the legal proceedings against her thus giving rise to genuine suspicions that the criminal case against her has been hushed up. Isn’t it a suitable case for the Apex court to take a suo Moto notice of it and call to the carpet those who have swept this case under the carpet ?
It is a pity that most of the lawyers do not exhibit high level of probity and they plead even those cases also before the courts in which the accused had committed crimes which are unforgivable and for which there is a need to award them stern punishment.
The performance of the Prosecution too is very dismal. The prosecuting officers either don’t work deligently or they are won over by the accused after greasing their palms More often than not, political expediences also come into play for letting the criminals off the hook as a result of which the criminals seldom get convicted if they belong to the elite class.
