Legendary squash player Azam Khan is no more. He breathed his last on 28 th March 2020 in London where he was settled since long He was 95.
Azam Khan was younger brother of Hasham Khan the Scion of Khan family of Nawakili Peshawar which ruled the roost in international squash for well over three decades . Besides, Hasham and Azam the other notable squash players of Nawakili are Roshan Khan Mohibullah senior, Jehangir, Jansher, Qamar Zaman Hiddy Jehan and Sharif Khan.
British open squash tournament enjoys the same status and prestige which Wimbledon enjoys in tennis. It has always been a prime international squash championship. No squash player has ever won so many British squash tournaments titles like the players of Nawakili Players This village has rightly been billed as a factory of squash champions.
Azam Khan had won British squash tournaments from 1959 to 1964. After calling it a day he had set up a squash academy in London with which he was associated till his death. The world of squash would certainly be the poorer without him. Players like him are born once in a blue moon. They are indeed a rare commodity in the world.
It was Hasham Khan who had trained Azam Khan and took him under his wings when he realized that he had the potentiality of becoming world champion. Time proved him right because when Hasham Khan called it quits from international squash there was no other squash player in the world who could hold a candle to him.
