PESHAWAR, December 10: Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash on Friday kicked off five-day anti-polio campaign by admnistering polio drops to children at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Peshawar.
Talking to media following inaugural function of anti-polio campaign at HMC, Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash said that every child below the age of five years would be vaccinated against polio to protect them from lifetime disability.
Secretary Health Tahir Orakzai, Medical Director HMC, Director Nursing, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Coordinator Abdul Basit, senior officials of EPI, representatives of UNICEF, WHO, BMGF and other supporting organizations were also present on the occasion.
EOC Coordinator said polio eradication campaign kicked off across the province from 10th December during which as many as 64,13817 children under the age of five would be vaccinated against polio. For this purpose, he said a total of 30,542 teams of trained polio workers have been formed, of which 27,355 are mobile teams, 1,902 fixed, 1,130 transit and 155 roaming teams. To ensure quality of campaign, he added that 7,370 area in-charges are involved for effective monitoring of immunization drive.
Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements made for the immunization drive, Chief Secretary Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash stressed upon officials to make anti-polio campaigns more effective across the province.
The Chief Secretary urged people from all walks of life, especially parents, to cooperate with polio workers and officials and get their children vaccinated against polio.-PR
