The culture of half truth developed by our politicians must end now and they should stop playing us for mugs. On both sides of the political divide, statements and counter statements are made almost daily, nineteen to the dozen, in which attempt is made to belittle each other in the public eye. Important national issues are seldom addressed. This attitude on their part makes confusion worse confounded.
The grown and growing population of the country is a cause of concern for the economic wizards of the country who fear that if it wasn’t checkmated whatever improvement is made on the economic front would go down the drain.
Ayub Khan had, long ago, almost 61years ago realised the need for family planning but some die hard element among the clergy had then taken up the cudgels against him on this score with the result that heart broken he lost interest in it. Had we followed his family planning programme, hook, line and sinker there would have been a different story to tell today. The Chinese are sensible farsighted people. Under the able steward ship of Chairman Mao and his second in command Chou en Lai Beijing has been able to put a brake on its population with the result that it is quite manageable today.
The government will certainly need the assistance of the religious chieftains in this connection for which they should be taken into confidence as early as possible. Time is fast running out .The government had better place this issue on its priority list. The earlier the better.
