Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Aibek Artykbaev met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that the meeting took place on Sunday on the margins of the 17th extraordinary session of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Afghanistan. During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of Kyrgyz-Pakistani bilateral cooperation, including the issues of holding the 4th session of the intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, inter-mission consultations, ways of recognition of medical universities of Kyrgyzstan by the Pakistan Medical Commission, opening of regular air communication between the two countries.
Artykbaev noted the relevance of the OIC meeting held in Islamabad for mobilizing efforts of the international community to prevent the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan, to ensure peace, stability and security in the region. The Kyrgyz side stressed the importance of organizing high-level and top-level visits, developing trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, and military-technical cooperation. In turn, Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in the context of energy cooperation, development of transport and logistics ties and humanitarian cooperation. The Pakistani foreign minister noted the need for closer regional cooperation, including within the OIC and SCO, as well as for joint efforts to resolve the Afghan crisis as soon as possible.
