ISLAMABAD, December 23: The federal government is all set to present a ‘mini-budget’ in the National Assembly
A spokesman for advisor to the PM on finance has said that the sixth review will be presented at the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Executive Board meeting on January 12.
Sources in the Ministry of Finance have told media that Pakistan will meet the preconditions set by the international money lending organisation before the presentation of the mini-budget.
Sources further said the government planned to present the ‘mini budget’ in the shape of a finance bill. They disclosed that there was a proposal to withdraw sales tax exemptions of Rs350 billion in the budget.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government’s decision to present a ‘mini budget’ is the consequence of taking dictation from the IMF.
Speaking at the parliament, she accused the government of mortgaging the entire country with the Fund in order to repay the loans. She was of the view that the government had no clue as how to put the country’s economy back on the track. -TLTP
