ISLAMABAD, December 27: The process of appointment of new Chairman NAB has been started.
According to sources, the name of Home Secretary Yousuf Naseem Khokar has been suggested by the government. Yousuf Naseem Khokar is the current Federal Secretary of Home Affairs.
The names of Ejaz Jafar and Amalis Chaudhry are also under consideration. The name of Justice (R) Dost Mohammad has been suggested by the opposition. Similarly, the names of Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Salman Siddique and Jalil Abbas have also been suggested.
It may be recalled that the government had decided to expedite the process of appointment of Chairman NAB and Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued orders to the Law Minister.
Under the new law, the President will hold written consultations with the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition on the appointment of Chairman NAB.
Sources said that under the new law, the President would first ask the Prime Minister for the name of Chairman NAB, after which the names received by the Chairman NAB from the Prime Minister would be sent to the Leader of the Opposition till the name of the new Chairman is agreed upon. The current Chairman NAB will continue to work.
It may be recalled that the third NAB Amendment Ordinance was issued on November 1 after the approval of the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi. The forum will be chaired by the President.
Under the ordinance, cases of fraud and deception from the public have been returned to NAB and cases of Mudaraba, fraud and deception have been restored to their pre-October 6 position, after which NAB and accountability courts Fraud cases were authorized.-TLTP
