1065098-MohammadWaseemphotoexpress-1457889666-715-640x480KARACHI: Pakistan boxer Mohammad Waseem will take on Indonesia’s John Bajawa at the Myoung Boxing World in Seoul on March 19, announced his promoter and manager Andy Kim on Sunday.Waseem, who is ranked 14th in the region in the bantamweight category, will fight to improve his ranking in the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation circuit. The 28-year-old only began his professional career
last year, and so far has fought twice, winning them both by knocking his opponents out.
“Waseem will be fighting in Korea and it [the fight] is expected to be a good one,” Kim told The Express Tribune. “It is a ranking fight and this will help improve his standing in the region.”Kim said that Waseem has been in good shape and further revealed that he also spent time at undisputed American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr’s boxing club in Las Vegas, where he trained for a month and worked on his technique.
Waseem will be at odds against Bajawa, who has 23 fights under his belt.
“Bajawa is experienced and he will be tough [to beat], but I’m satisfied with the fight at the moment,” said Kim. “We are expecting a full house for the bout here.”The Quetta-born is currently training in Japan for the fight, while he also visited Pakistan and spent a week with the boxing squad, who were training for the 2016 Rio Olympics qualifiers. And he wants his Pakistan teammates to perform well in the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, boxer Arshad Khan, who was present at the camp with Waseem, said: “It’s good to have Waseem with us. He was training differently than before, which helped us improve our training techniques. It was great to have him around.”
