ISLAMABAD, January 6: Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) inline with the vision ofhonorable Prime Minster of Pakistan is developing the capacity of returning migrants andproviding them with trade-specific toolkits as an In-Kind support to help them start sustained self-employment.
A ceremony was organized in Islamabad under OPF’s Pak – German Facilitation & ReintegrationCentre (PGFRC) where toolkits were handed over to 82 returning migrants in the fields ofphotography, culinary arts, motorcycle mechanic, electrician, plumber, carpenter, and mason.
These returnee migrants had also completed a comprehensive business development training fromPGFRC in their selected trades.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development Mr.Muhammad AyubAfridi was chief guest at the ceremony, Ms. Marion Pfennigs, Head ofDevelopment Cooperation, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Amer Sheikh,
Managing Director OPF, Mr. Tobias Becker, Country Director, GIZ, members of Senate andNational Assembly Standing Committees on Overseas Pakistanis & HRD, Members, OPF Boardof Governors, senior government officials, representatives of international organizations and civilsociety representatives also attended the ceremony.
Mr. Muhammad AyubAfridi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis & HumanResource Development said that today’s ceremony is a testament to the commitment ofGovernment of Pakistan which considers overseas Pakistanis as its roaming ambassadors abroadand is actively engaged in resolving their reintegration issues in Pakistan. Ministry of OP&HRD,under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan through OPF is working in afocused manner on this issue.
Dr. Amer Sheikh, Managing Director, OPF shared that MoU between German and Pakistanigovernments has been formalized at a very important point in time and is the start of new dawnin the area of support to the Pakistanis returning migrants as a result of the pandemic. Thisarrangement will support in counselling and introduction to employment or entrepreneurshipmeasures.
Ms. Marion Pfennigs, Head of Development Cooperation, German Embassy, Mr. Tobias BeckerCountry Director GIZ, and Dr. MansoorZaib Khan, GIZ Pakistan said that PGFRC is playing acritical role in enhancing the capacity of returnee migrants and reducing unemployment rates in
Pakistan.
The returnee Pakistanis who received their Tool-Kits expressed their gratitude to Ministry ofOverseas Pakistanis & HRD/OPF for supporting them to make a new start and achieve sustainableself-employment in Pakistan.-PR
