- COAS validates execution of 13 death-row inmates

RAWALPINDI, March 15: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Shareef on Tuesday paid visit to Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) situated in Wahh cantt, sources reported.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department, this is the Army Chief’s second important visit to the Ordnance Factory.
He was briefed by Chairman POF Lieutenant General Umar Mahmood Hayat regarding the performance and the future plans of the industrial complex. COAS visited various areas of the factory and inaugurated the new ammunition plant of the factory.
While addressing the management staff of the factory, General Raheel stated that POF is the first ordnance factory in the country which has played a crucial role in uplifting the fighting capabilities of the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
He lauded the efforts of POF in fulfilling the ammunition requirement of the army during Operation Zarb-e-Azb further adding that buyers from other markets need to be attracted towards the excellent quality arms produced by the Factory.
COAS stressed upon the need of upgrading the arms’ technology and self-sufficiency in this regards.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday confirmed death sentences awarded to another 13 hardcore terrorists including attackers of Nanga Parbat massacre.
According to a statement issued here by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the death-row prosoners were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism, including killing of 10 foreign tourists at Nanga Parbat.
The 2013 attack was the deadliest assault on foreigners in Pakistan for a decade and was claimed by a purported new faction of Pakistan’s umbrella Taliban movement, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
They were also involved in attack on Saidu Sharif Airport, destruction of schools, attacks on Armed Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies and civilians, the statement added.-Agencies
