ISLAMABAD, February 23: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator and former interior minister Rehman Malik breathed his last in Islamabad in the wee hours of Wednesday due to complications arising from Covid-19. He was 70 years old.
Rehman Malik was brought to a private hospital in Islamabad on February 1 for treatment of post-Covid lungs complications where he passed away. The former interior minister has been admitted to the International Hospital. He was suffering from pain in his lungs and having difficulty in breathing. Doctors had shifted him to a ventilator then. Rehman Malik’s Namaz-i-Janaza will be held in Islamabad at 2:00 pm tomorrow (Thursday) and he will be laid to rest besides the grave of Pakistan’s celebrated nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan in the federal capital’s H-8 graveyard. According to senator’s spokesperson Riaz Ahmad Turi, Rehman Malik had been hospitalised due to coronavirus and his lungs had been severely affected. After testing positive for the Covid-19, Malik was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU). He is survived by his widow and two sons.
