ISLAMABAD, March 1: President Dr Arif Alvi has stressed the need that government departments should provide online services to businesses, particularly by creating one-window facility through web portals.
He was talking to a delegation of Board of Investment, which led by Minister of State and Chairman BoI Muhammad Azfar Ahsan called on him on Tuesday.
The president appreciated the successful initiative being led by BoI, and its role in helping drive Pakistan’s economy by offering maximum facilitation to the local and foreign investors to invest in the country.
The delegation briefed the president about the BoI’s working in detail and highlighted ongoing efforts to create a business-friendly environment in the country. He was also informed that 112 regulatory reforms have been implemented so far, involving 70 federal and provincial departments, which have benefitted more than 20 economic activities of the private sector.
The chairman BoI highlighted how these reforms have resulted in facilitation of small and medium businesses in the country. It was informed that on the direction of the prime minister, the reforms process has been expanded across the country.
Meanwhile, President Alvi has urged the youth to tap the tremendous opportunities in the field of information technology (IT).
Addressing the 13th Convocation of COMSATS University on Tuesday, he pointed out that the world would require about eighty million skilled manpower only in the field of cyber security by 2030. The president was appreciative of the tax relief announced by the Prime Minister for the IT sector. He also emphasised the need for promotion of online education.
President Alvi expressed hope that Pakistani youth have all those abilities through which they can easily change the fate of the country. He called for discouraging the culture of fake news as it creates chaos in the society and misleads the people.
Dr Alvi said spreading false news is against the spirit of Islam and it is the moral obligation of all to play their role in guiding and educating the masses to overcome the challenge of fake news.
