Deputies from Sweden are expected to visit Kyrgyzstan in April, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported Tuesday. A meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Azizbek Madmarov and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan Louise Chamberlain. She noted that a group of high representatives of Sweden plans to get acquainted with the activities of the UN development program in the Kyrgyz Republic.
“The Swedish side is interested in studying the prospects for increasing the amount of funding for UNDP projects in the republic. In addition, in the future, the results of the visit may have a positive impact on the expansion of Kyrgyz-Swedish cooperation,” the report said. Madmarov noted that against the backdrop of climate change, Kyrgyzstan and Sweden are facing the risk of reducing the area of mountain glaciers. This threatens both countries with new challenges and problems on a wide range of issues. In this regard, Azizbek Madmarov expressed the interest of the Kyrgyz side in cooperation with the Swedish counterparts on sustainable mountain development, as well as in the organization of the upcoming visit of Swedish parliamentarians. At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue coordination of activities in preparation for the Swedish MPs’ visit.
