MirwaizUmarFarooq3SRINAGAR, March 20: In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that India is pushing the Kashmiri youth to the wall by torturing and harassing them in the territory.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said that the Indian civil society and the international community had started understanding the Kashmir dispute and the need to resolve it in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
To a question, he said: “There is a huge constituency in India that is slowly and gradually coming to understand the dynamics of the Kashmir dispute. “What happened recently in JNU and how we saw different reactions coming up has in a way forced many people to rethink where the Indian state and society is heading. Many people are saying we have to accept the fact that Kashmir is an issue.” there are many Indians who have a humanistic approach towards the problem, he added. To another query, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri boys and young men in early 1990s took Kashmir dispute out of cold storage and turned it into the limelight of international politics. “I believe that they have done their job and now it is time for politics and political way through which we have to find a solution”, he maintained.
To a question the APHC Chief said, if a political approach is adopted, the Kashmiris would support that, but India is looking at it through a security and law and order dimension, which primarily is not the problem.
He said that India was denying the ground realities. New Delhi must understand that if you want to engage in a realistic way, there are people who are willing to do that. If you are going to push people to the wall, you are going to face hurdles, he added
The Mirwaiz said: “We believe we are on the right track. Our struggle is based on principles of truth and justice. But at the same time, we have to understand how global politics works.”-KMS
