Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology is a hope to improve the socio-economic conditions in South Punjab. Now, it is one of the leading universities in Pakistan which has adopted a modern university model and its management has evolved new strategies to meet the challenges in higher education and to develop a good educational, research-oriented, innovative and healthy environment for the students. Under the chancellorship of Governor Ch. Mohammad Sarwar, it has become one of the rapidly growing universities in Punjab. It is one of the universities which is fully aligned with the educational vision of the chancellor and Government of Punjab. In two years, the number of students became almost double. More than thirty new BS, MS and PhD programs were initiated.
Under PC 1 Phase II, eight development projects and twelve development projects from the university’s resources were initiated. These development projects include five faculty hostels, three boys hostels, two girls hostels, community center, executive club, guest house, commercial market, wastewater treatment, shed for buses, etc. University service statutes were approved and implemented in April 2021. UI International GreeMetric Ranking declared Khwaja Fareed University at 234th worldwide, 13th in South Asia and 5th in Pakistan. International TIMES Higher Education Impact ranking (2021) declared KFUEIT among the top 300 to 400 universities worldwide. An increase of 107 percent in the number of students getting scholarships and a 955 percent increase in scholarship amount was recorded. University endowment fund was established. With the support of the Government of Punjab, Twelve new buses were included in the transport fleet. Research publications increased by 111 percent. Its impact factor increased from 500 to 3000. 15 NRPU research grants are approved in 2022. KFUEIT won research grants of more than 350 million rupees. To improve the co-curricular and extra-curricular eighteen new student societies were initiated. KFUEIT students participated in different national competitions and got distinctions. A Business Incubation Center was established. To provide students with all services at one window and to save their time, a ‘Student Facilitation Center’ was established. A bank branch was established on the campus. Under the vision of the government of Punjab, more than fifty thousand plants were planted on the campus. South Punjab Skill Development Institute was established in collaboration with NAVTTC. More than six hundred students are enrolled in different certificate courses. The directorate of sports was established and proper coaching of the athletes was initiated. KFUEIT’s athletes participated in different national events and won more than sixty medals. To improve research and collaboration more than forty-fiveMoUs were signed with different national & international universities or organizations. Recently, the first convocation of KFUEIT was held in which more than 750 students were awarded degrees. With all these developments and achievements, now KFUEIT has become a modal prototype for other universities in the province.
The success story of KFUEIT was actualized under the visionary chancellorship of Governor Punjab Ch. Mohammad Sarwar. No doubt, his initiatives for the province especially in the paradigm of higher education are remarkable.As the Chancellor,he is ensuring meritocracy in public and private universities of Punjab. He made the teaching of the Quran with translation mandatory in all universities of Punjab.He launched the biggest scholarship program in 72-year history for the students of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA.He also announced setting up the sub-campuses of Universities in FATA and Gilgit.Under the patronage of Governor Punjab Mohammad Sarwar, Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority is working expeditiously for the provision of safe drinking water to about 70 million population in 36 districts of Punjab.After the Coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan, Governor Punjab Mohammad Sarwar brought various organizations together under the Punjab Development Network (PDN).As the head of the Religious Tourism and Heritage Committee, he has directed the renovation of Christian holy sites in Maryamabad. He launched Telemedicine Centre at various medical universities and hospitals across Punjab including King Edward Medical University (KEMU) shortly after the Coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan to take the burden off hospitals.As the Governor of Punjab, he paid four visits to European countries and did successful lobbying for GSP-Plus status for Pakistan. He held meetings with more than 30 members of the European Parliament for this purpose.As a result of this extension, Pakistan’s exports increased by 65 percent and got benefits worth 15 billion dollars. He launched Community Safety Training book for Punjab Boy Scouts Association (PBSA) at Governor House to cope with emergencies more efficiently and diligently.As Head of the Punjab Agriculture Committee, he has launched a campaign to promote cotton cultivation in South Punjab with the support of relevant departments of Federal and Provincial governments.
As a governor and as a chancellor, his services are remarkable. His visionary initiatives candidly show his keen interest in the development of various sectors of Punjab, especially higher education. KFUEIT is such a university that is fully aligned with the vision of the chancellor and provides quality education and innovative research to sort out the problems of indigenous industry and agriculture. The rapid growth of KFUEIT is actualized with the help of the Government of Punjab and the kind consideration of the chancellor.
