To be on crossroads has been Pakistan’s destiny ever since it came into being to fulfill the endeared dream of its founding fathers and millions and millions of its people to become the world’s first modern state with an Islamic Welfare character. 67th year in its existence, Pakistan is still far from becoming an Islamic Welfare State where some privileged classes will not live in boundless luxury and millions and millions of its citizens will not struggle to survive for want of even drinking water.
The ruling elites of this country have succeeded in giving a general impression that the issue is not to ensure social justice in the society, but whether the country should be ruled by its civil oligarchs or its military bureaucracy.
Today the storm of this controversy is rising again. The country is once again on cross-roads. The Nation does not know in which direction the Wind of the Events will blow it away. We the seekers of the fulfillment of a sacred dream can only pray that this time the country does choose the right path—and move in the direction it should have moved a long time ago.
