ISLAMABAD: Seven Pakistanis died, one got injured and four went missing after a mine collapsed in Oman.
The incident happened in Ibri, 260 miles southwest of Muscat, Pakistan’s embassy in Muscat said. The accident took place when a rockslide hit a marble quarry.
“Embassy [in Muscat] is closely coordinating with host authorities in the search and rescue operation,” the statement said. “Oman authorities have deployed heavy machinery, sophisticated cameras and sniffer dogs for the search and rescue operation. Expert geologists are also providing
technical support in the rescue work.”
Work at the site has been halted and the company has provided food and shelter to all workers, 140 of whom are Pakistanis.
The statement said two officers of the embassy visited Ibri and met the aggrieved families and workers. The embassy has also offered complete support and ensured the earliest repatriation of bodies. TLTP
