ISLAMABAD, March 22: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah has criticised Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan over Parvez Musharraf’s departure and said that Nisar can be disqualified if anyone files a writ against him. He said Nisar has become the spokesman of Musharraf instead of Nawaz Sharif. Shah said he had earlier informed that enemies are present in his own fold, adding that he had opposed trial of Musharraf over 3rd November 2007 steps.
Talking to the media after the joint sitting of the parliament Khurshid Shah slammed Nisar over Musharraf’s departure. Shah said that he had carrying out trial of Musharraf over 3rd November 2007 steps is like giving him safe passage, adding that he had demanded action against Musharraf from 12th October 1999 action against PML-N government. Shah said PPP ministers took oath from Musharraf and PPP lodged high treason against a person, who had taken oath from them.
Shah said if PPP did not lodge the high treason case against Musharraf during its own tenure and how we can become party in the case now. He said why parliament was not taken into confidence over the exit of Musharraf from Pakistan. He said Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had returned back after striking NRO with Musharraf, adding that thousands of people were benefited from the NRO signed by Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto.
Khurshid Shah said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) can never call Musharraf a traitor as the party has administered the oath itself.
He also said that government has been trapped as far as implementation of article 6 is concerned.
Earlier Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly on Monday said that the government should have taken the Parliament into confidence for allowing Pervez Musharraf to go abroad for medical treatment.
Speaking in Joint Session of the Parliament, he said if the issue of allowing Musharraf to travel abroad was brought before the Parliament it would have raised stature of the Parliament. He said the Parliament and democratic forces had always played a greater role in strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions and never bowed to any pressure, adding that the government should give due waitage to this august house and take it into confidence on all major issues.
He said it was not the PPP but the present government that had decided to try Musharraf under Article 6, as he (Musharraf) had toppled a democratic government in 1999 and arrested an elected Prime Minister, adding that instead of trying him for a treason case he was allowed to travel abroad. -Sabah
