The present political turmoil in the country is not going to go away unless general elections in the country are held.
Electoral reforms are a must for ensuring that no gerrymandering takes place Both the government and the opposition must join heads and evolve a fool proof electoral system under which nobody could rig the elections.A consensus among all the political parties on the electoral reforms is a must otherwise the political parties which would lose the elections would take to the street and accuse the winning party of rigging and thus once again plunge the country into political chaos which this country no longer is in a position to afford.Let us admit that no political party has hitherto shown due enthusiasm needed to carry out electoral reforms which is unfortunate to say the least. It may be pointed out that a couple of years back a retired I G Police known as Mr Gill was chief election Commissioner in the neighbouring India He had, during his tenure as CEC reformed the Indian Election Commission in such a manner that no polity party could even think of gerrymandering. We also need men of his ilk in our Election Commission.
