37-member Federal Cabinet takes oath

- Comprises 30 Federal Ministers, four State Ministers and three Advisers

ISLAMABAD, April 19: A 37-member federal cabinet, comprising 30 federal ministers, four state ministers and three advisers to the prime minister, took oath at a swearing-in ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani administered oath to the cabinet members, a week after he had sworn-in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the head of the government.
Besides PM Shehbaz Sharif, the event was attended by senior politicians including Bilawal Bhutto, former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and a large number of parliamentarians, party workers, and government officials.
The new cabinet reflected the political mix of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Also, one member each from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Jamhoori Watan Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid joined the cabinet. Balochistan National Party stayed away from becoming part of the coalition cabinet.
The opposition alliance had led to the ouster of prime minister Imran Khan from his office through a majority no-confidence vote in the parliament on April 10.
The list of ministers includes Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Khurrum Dastagir Khan, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Miftah Ismail from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
The cabinet members from Pakistan Peoples Party include Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Abdul Qadir Patel, Shazia Marri, Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Sajid Hussain Turi, Ehsaan-ur-Rehman Mazari and Abid Hussain Bhayo.
The cabinet members from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl include Asad Mahmood, Abdul Wasay, Mufti Abdul Shakoor, and Muhammad Talha Mahmood.
The cabinet members from Muttahida Qaumi Movement include Syed Amin-ul-Haque and Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari. Similarly, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) members of cabinet is Muhammad Israr Tareen, Nawabzada Shazain Bugti is from Jamhoori Watan Party and Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema from PML-Q.
The four ministers of state include Dr Aisha Ghaus Pasha from PML-N, Hina Rabbani Khar from PPP, Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju from PML-N and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar from PPP.
The cabinet also includes advisers namely Qamar Zaman Kaira, Engineer Amir Muqam and Aon Chaudhry.
The President House in a statement issued prior to the oath-taking ceremony said that President Dr Arif Alvi had given formal approval to the names of the federal and state ministers, and advisers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said with dedication and persistent work as the motto of the government, the new cabinet would work efficiently towards addressing the problems of the people.
“It is my fervent hope that federal ministers, ministers of state and advisers will provide leadership, and also resolve the problems of the people,” he said in a tweet as his cabinet took oath of office this morning. The prime minister said the federal cabinet had been formed after thorough consultations with Pakistan Muslim League Leader Mian Nawaz Sharif and the coalition partners. He said, “Work, work & only work is our motto”. Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan on April 11. -TLTP
