NEW DELHI, March 25: The APHC Chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that India and Pakistan need to hold serious and result-oriented talks to settle the lingering Kashmir dispute.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in New Delhi said that he met Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit along with a delegation in New Delhi and apprised him of the latest situation of occupied Kashmir. He said that he told the High Commissioner that Hurriyet leadership was not against the talks between Pakistan and India and believed that dialogue was the only mechanism with which the two countries could resolve their all issues.The Mirwaiz said that he told Abdul Basit that both the sides should keep in mind that aspirations of the people of Kashmir needed to be taken into account for any settlement of the dispute. He said that he apprised the High Commissioner that Hurriyet Conference had always welcomed the dialogue process between Pakistan and India and hoped the two counties would evolve the ways to include the people of Kashmir in the composite dialogue process to resolve the lingering dispute.
Meanwhile, people staged forceful anti-India demonstrations in Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and Islamabad areas, Friday.
People took to the streets in Srinagar and Pulwama and raised high-pitched slogans in favour of freedom and against India. Indian police fired teargas shells and pallets to disperse the protesters injuring many people.-KMS
