RAWALPINDI, May 25: Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid on Wednesday said that the movement by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will continue until a schedule for the early elections is announced, vowing to remove all obstacles in the way of the party’s planned long march.
Addressing a gathering outside his residence Lal Haveli, Rashid reiterated that “thieves” had taken on the responsibilities of prime minister and chief minister, and that half of the incumbent Cabinet comprised “thugs.” He added that the US was involved in the regime change ‘conspiracy’, adding that the PTI chief had become the voice of the nation’s solidarity.
Commenting on the remarks by a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that he had spoken of anarchy, Rashid, who also heads the Awami Muslim League (AML), said he would prefer “dying than to support any unrest.”
The veteran politician told the former premier that he would welcome him to Islamabad once he reached the federal capital.
Shortly after his address, Rashid moved to an undisclosed location while being surrounded by the AML workers.
The PTI chief has reportedly entered Punjab on his way to the federal capital to lead a rally against the incumbent government, with the primary demands to hold fresh elections and dissolve the assemblies.
Imran Khan has been running a campaign against his ouster from power following a no-trust vote by the Parliament, which he alleges was a result of a conspiracy hatched against him by the US for pursing an independent foreign policy.-TLTP
