RAWALPINDI, June 2:Five new schemes proposed by the Communication and Works Department to control the chaotic traffic congestion.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Noorul Amin Mengal while presiding over a meeting for dualization and rehabilitation of urban roads said that the plan to double track the three main roads is being proposed. It is to facilitate the movement of people of Rawalpindi and to control the traffic congestion on the connecting roads. For said purpose, an estimated cost of Rs 1575 million for the 18 km long Chakri Road, Rs 1594 million estimated for the 22 km long road from Adiala Road to KachehriChowkTanga Stand and Rs 1533 million for 11 km long road from RawatChak Bailey Road was proposed. Commissioner Rawalpindi further said that alongwith it, there is a plan to make Peshawar road completely signal free from Koralchowk to motorway chowk and at the same time construction and repair of urban roads of Rawalpindi district are also part of this plan. He said that necessary paperwork for these roads has been completed and sent for approval. Efforts are being made to include them in the next annual development program after approval ad start work on them as soon as possible.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting on progress on development projects. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Coordination Saif Anwar Japa, Director Development NaziaSadhan and other concerned officers.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Noorul Amin Mengal further said that provision of better transportation facilities to our masses is our top priority. This will not only make travel easier for the people but also save time and help in controlling the traffic congestion. In addition to the construction of new roads, maintenance and widening of existing roads is also underway to make it easier for the residents of the area and especially for daily commuters. Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said that heavy traffic movement time has been fixed across the city from 11 pm to 6 am, which has led to some improvement in the deteriorating situation of traffic congestion here, however, further action is urgently needed.-PR
