ISLAMABAD, June 9: Top regulatory body of the lawyers Pakistan Bar Council on Thursday urged the government to take immediate measures to control prevailing inflationary pressure and economic crises of Country.
While chairing meetings of the executive committee of the council Pir Masood Chisti passed a resolution saying the Committee has taken strong exception to the first time in the Country history record hike in fuel prices which results in overall massive inflation. He said the sharp increase in price of consumer items has made the life of a common man much more expensive and very difficult since it was already adversely hitting the affordability of an average Pakistani.
He further said that the government has increased the fuel prices by honouring commitments with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) without consideration and realizing that in a country where almost half of the population lives below the poverty line. He pointed out that such a commitment with the IMF would have the worst effect on the life of the common man.
The PBC committee was of the view that soaring prices have caused great unrest and frustration among the people. It has shaken the faith of the people upon the Government because life has become very hard in real terms and increase in prices of daily items/commodities has seriously affected everyone and has reached an alarming stage.
Passing the resolution, he said that the Committee is of the view that bureaucracy and other government functionaries are getting huge perks, privileges, other benefits/facilities including free fuel. He expressed concern saying Wapda and Sui Gas department employees are getting free facilities of electricity and gas. TLTP
