ISLAMABAD, June 30: World Refugee Day is an annual commemoration celebrated on 20th June each year, established by the United Nations to recognize and to ensure that the world stands with Refugees. Refugees are, without doubt, the most vulnerable people in the world. They deserve the same standard of treatment as the nationals of the country where they have sought refuge.
Inspire Pakistan takes pride in serving refugees by empowering their youth through education in protecting their right to education and also through provision of protection services to them alongside UNHCR in Pakistan. We not only aim at, but also strive for, taking corrective measures in order to ensure that the Refugee Rights are protected. This helps in the progress and development for the welfare of Afghan Refugees during their temporary stay in Pakistan. Inspire Pakistan arranged sports gala where community of Afghan refugees and host communities participated in different games and fun events at Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi with zeal and energy. Closing of Sports Gala and award distribution ceremony was arranged for these communities to recognize, appreciate and applaud their love for sports in Islamabad.
UNHCR, GIZ & civil society participated along with the Afghan refugee community providing an example of social cohesion. Ms. Tammi Sharpe the Deputy Representative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was the Chief Guest. Mr. Bilal Qureshi, Technical Advisor M&E (GIZ) was Guest of honour. Awards distributed for Cricket, Tug of war & Arms wrestling at Star Cricket Ground, Ibn-e-Sina Road, G 9/3 , Islamabad by Ms. Tammi Sharpe – UNHCR-Pakistan, Mr. Bilal Qureshi – GIZ and Mr. Qaiser M. Siddiqui Co-Founder & CEO Inspire Pakistan.
