Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi told Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) that he lauded Indonesia for its leadership in the 2022 G20 Presidency, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated.
“The president (Jokowi) just received a courtesy call from the Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi,” she stated here on Monday.
She noted that the visit was undertaken after Yi attended the G20 Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting on July 8, 2022, in Bali Province as well as a high-level dialogue cooperation mechanism between Indonesia and China on July 9, 2022.
During the visit conducted at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the Chinese State Councillor said that his country understood that there were several challenges in the current global situation, Marsudi remarked.
Hence, he assessed that Indonesia had succeeded in conducting good and prudent leadership, and thus, the G20 Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting had gone well.
“In addition, China praised Indonesia’s various attempts to seek a peaceful resolution to the current situation in Ukraine whilst specifically mentioning the president’s (Jokowi’s) visit to Kyiv and Moscow,” the Indonesian foreign minister remarked.
Furthermore, she noted that the meeting also discussed various bilateral issues between Indonesia and China, including the commitment of both nations to continue to improve the mutually beneficial relations.
“In 2021, trade between the two countries experienced a very significant increase, more than 54 percent, and reached a value of US$110 billion (Rp1,656 trillion),” she stated.
She remarked that Indonesia’s trade balance deficit with China had also continued to decline and more Indonesian flagship products were absorbed by the Chinese market.
Jokowi and Wang also spoke about priority projects of the two countries, including the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project.
“Other topics of discussion also included cooperation in the health sector, including for the development of vaccines and genomic joint laboratories as well as attempts of the two countries to encourage stronger relations between the private sectors of the two nations,” Marsudi added.
