Jakarta (ANTARA) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded a surplus of US$5.09 billion (Rp76.72 trillion) in Indonesia’s trade balance in June 2022, with exports touching US$26.09 billion (Rp393.28 trillion) and imports US$21 billion (Rp316.55 trillion). June was the 25th consecutive month that Indonesia recorded a surplus since May 2020, BPS H ead Margo Yuwono said at a press conference here on Friday. “The surplus from the non-oil and gas commodities reached US$7.23 billion (Rp108.98 trillion). The main commodities which contributed (to the surplus) were mineral fuels, vegetable fats, and animal oils, as well as iron and steel,” he informed.
The trade surplus was driven by export volumes, which grew more rapidly than imports, he noted.
The value of exports increased by 21.3 percent in June this year compared to the previous month, or by 40.68 percent year-on-year (yoy). Exports of non-oil and gas commodities jumped by 22.71 percent month-to-month (mtm), or 41.89 percent yoy, to reach US$24.56 billion (Rp370.2 trillion), the BPS head informed. Meanwhile, oil and gas exports rose by 2.45 percent mtm or 23.68 percent yoy to reach US$1.53 billion (Rp23 trillion)
The main contributors to the export value of the non-oil and gas commodities were animal fats and vegetable oils, whose exports shot up by 300.66 percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the value of Indonesia’s imports in June 2022 increased by 12.87 percent mtm or 21.98 percent yoy. “The imports of oil and gas commodities in June 2022 were worth US$3.67 billion (Rp55.32 trillion), which was an increase of 9.52 percent compared to May 2022 and 59.84 percent compared to June 2021,” Yuwono informed.
