ISLAMABAD, July 22: Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Nguyen Tien Phong assumed the position of Chairman of the Committee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Islamabad (ACI) from Thailand Ambassador, H.E. ChakkridKrachaiwong. Attending the handover ceremony were Ambassadors and Chargé d’affaires of 7 ASEAN member countries in Pakistan, including, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Addressing at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong congratulated the Thai Ambassador on successfully completing his term and highly appreciated the events organized by the Thai Embassy as well as the positive contributions of the ACI member countries. Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong affirmed his honor to accept the position of Chairmanship of ACI, saying he would do his best during his term to promote ACI’s activities in the spirit of solidarity and attachment to ASEAN cooperation with Pakistan in all fields, especially in politics, economy, trade, investment, tourism, education and training.
The Ambassadors of ACI congratulated Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong on his new role, especially in the context of Vietnam’s increasing role and position in the region and in the international arena, with its essential contributions.
After the handover ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong chaired the first meeting of ACI, proposed a number of initiatives and activities to promote cooperation in many fields between ASEAN and the host country and its strategic partners and dialogue partners.
Representatives of ASEAN countries highly appreciated the initiatives and proposed activities of the new ACI President Nguyen Tien Phong in the immediate future.
