ISLAMABAD, July 26: President DrArifAlvi has urged the political parties to find solutions to financial and economic woes faced by the country through a consultative process and to take steps to manage the rising inflation in the country.
He said this while interacting with the media persons in Islamabad on Tuesday. The President said that uncertain political and economic situation in any country can expand polarization in society which is detrimental to everyone’s interest.
Hence, all stakeholders should take meaningful steps to bring about political and economic stability through a consultative process while remaining within the bounds of the Constitution and relevant laws of the country.
DrArifAlvi said he has a good working relationship with the current government and has no confrontation with the Prime Minister. Replying to a question, DrArifAlvi said he is ready to play his role in facilitating a consultative process amongst the political parties, only if all the stakeholders ask him to play such a role.
Regarding a question about the early appointment of the Army Chief, the President said if the appointment of the Army chief is initiated through the laid down procedure under relevant laws and contained the formal approval of relevant institutions and offices, then he would have no objection to it.
The President also emphasized on pursuing a non-confrontational foreign policy by the country and establishing friendly and mutually beneficial relations with all countries of the world.
While responding to a question about the Presidential system, DrArifAlvi said the parliamentary system is a tried and tested system and has evolved over a period of time as the best-suited system for our country. He said that vesting of extraordinary powers to the President through articles like the expunged 58 2 (b) was not in the larger interest of the country. -DNA
