ISLAMABAD, July 27: A seminar on “Iqbal and Maulana Rome” was organized by the Iqbal Chair of Tasawwuf and Muslim Thought, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). International poet and teacher of Persian and Urdu Prof. Dr. MoinNizami chaired the event while Chairman, Department of Urdu, Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir delivered a keynote address on “Konian school of Sufism and its effects”.
Professor MoinNizami said that the ideas and philosophy of Rumi and Iqbal are very important for the formation of a peaceful and harmonious society and we should teach those values, ideas, and traditions to our youth which were founded by Sufis, Maulana Rumi and Allama Iqbal. He said that such seminars are very useful for researchers and the new generation. He said that universities should be centers of research and I am very grateful for the steps being taken by this center of excellence. He congratulated Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum for providing scholars with a platform for research on Sufism.
In his keynote address on “Konian school of Sufism and its effects” Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir said that digit three has very special importance in Rumi’s life, he had three periods, three books, three beloved personalities and he loved three cities very much. He added that the companionship of Shams Tabriz made Maulana Rumi a complete Sufi. His Masnavi is one of the most popular books of Sufism and Allama Iqbal was very much influenced by this Masnavi, he used to call Maulana Rumi his Murshid. Dr. Sahir said that there is a similarity in the era of Rumi and Iqbal, also regarding the love of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He further said that the taste of wisdom and philosophical beliefs are reflected in the poetry of both. Maulana Rumi’s Masnavi has kept his name alive till date.
Head, Iqbal chair of Tasawwuf and Muslim Thought, Prof. Fateh Muhammad Malik said that this plant of Iqbal and Sufism Chair was planted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, and new generations will take benefit from this initiative. Head, Seerat Chair, SahibzadaSajid Ur Rehman, Senior Advisor, Project Management Unit, Prof. Mohammad Rafiq Tahir and Dr. Abdul WajidTabasim, Faculty members, and a large number of students were also present.-PR
