RAWALPINDI, December 13: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to another thirteen hardcore terrorists, the army said.
The convicts were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, including killing and slaughtering of innocent civilians, officials of Law Enforcement Agencies and Armed Forces of Pakistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
These terrorists also include those who planned and executed attacks on Bacha Khan University Charsada, Parade Lane Mosque Rawalpindi, Marriot Hotel Islamabad, Office of World Vision NGO at Mansehra and educational institution at Nawagai Buner, the ISPR stated.
On the whole, they were involved in killing 325 persons and in causing injuries to 366 others. Fire-arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by military courts.
The convict Latif Ullah Mehsud son of Ramzan was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in killing of innocent civilians and attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of 150 civilians (members and attendees of local Jirga) and 7 soldiers of Frontier Constabulary. The convict admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
The convict Arafat son of Gul Zarin was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Marriot Hotel Islamabad and Parade Lane Mosque Rawalpindi, which resulted in death of 110 persons and injuries to 330 others. The convict admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
The convicts Wahid Ali son of Abdul Ali, Akbar Ali son of Kareem Ullah, Muhammad Riaz son of Muhammad Diyar Khan and Noor Ullah son of Muhammad Diyar Khan were members of proscribed organization.
They were involved in attacking Bacha Khan University Charsada, which resulted in death of 17 civilians and injuries to 19 others. They were also found in possession of fire arms and explosives. These convicts admitted their offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentences. – DNA
