A rough survey reveals that the residents of the federal capital are spending about 40 lakh rupees daily on buying water through water tankers due to the inability of the CDA to supply them enough water to cater for their daily needs. The water shortage in Islamabad is becoming acute by the day. Many reasons are being cited for the scarcity of water ranging from water theft with umpteen illegal connections on the pipelines laid to Islamabad from the Simli and Khanpur dams, to the out of action tube wells which the CDA has not been able to repair after their breakdown owing to paucity of funds. To cap it all, the CDA has been opening new residential sectors with rare abandon without realising that if it cannot fulfill the water needs of the existing population of the federal capital how come is it going to cater to the water needs of the new human habitations?. Moreover, every Tom,Dick and Harry is allowed to dig borings in his house without first ascertaining how much sub soil water is available and how long is it going to last?
These senseless policies are going to come to roost one day in the near future plunging the federal capital into a big water crisis.
