The twin sister of former Shahinshah of Iran kicked the bucket at an unidentified place the other day at the ripe age of 96. She has been living in self-exile since the overthrow of her brother’s kingship by Imam Khomeni at various undisclosed places in Europe and US because of the threat to her life The final hours of Princes Ashraf Pehlawi were quite similar to those of her deposed brother King Reza Shah Pehlawi, who too was always on the run shifting places of his residence occasionally because the Shia clerics were after his blood. But for Egyptian president Anwaar-us-Saadat, who provided him a place for burial in his country, the former Iranian king might not have got even a few yards of grave for himself. Like the last Moghul emperor Badshah Shah Zafar he could not get a a place for burial in the country he once ruled as Shahinshah for quite some time. What a pity?
In her autobiography the twin sister of King Reza Shah Pehlawi had disclosed the well guarded secret of her brother’r terminal illness toward the fag end of his rule. It was kept secret from the CIA to the last minute. Had the Americans got its inkling there would have been, perhaps, a different story to tell today. A French family doctor of the King used to fly into Tehran from Paris on different names. He was posed as King’s friend. He used to take blood samples of the Shahinshah under different names, flew back to Paris, got those samples analysed and then prescribed medicines for the King. The twin sister of the King revealed in her book that every new medicine for cancer was first tried on her brother.
POSTSCRIPT : No doubt following induction into our national cricket team of Mohammad Aamir our pace department would get the necessary bite as he is a confirmed wicket taker who would excel on the fast and turning wickets of New Zealand but there are many who are not in favour of inclusion of those cricketers in the national team who are convicted in any crimes as it sends wrong signal to the youth of the country.
