The entire nation saw a footage on a private TV channel the other day showing a pet cat of Asifa Bhutto having a round in a luxury car of Lahore after it was flown to Lahore airport from Karachi. Later on it was flown in a helicopter from the Lahore airport to Bilawal House. Asifa’s pet cat is certainly luckier than millions of people of this country who are living below poverty line and who don’t know where their next meal would come from. This is happening in a country where teeming million of poor people simply cannot afford a bicycle. There is a helluva difference in the life style of the common man and the rulers and their families in this country. Keeping pet animals like dogs and cats or horses is a past time of the filthy rich in this country. Who says days of kingship are over? They are very much there. The rulers have only changed their garb. They pose themselves as democrats but they act like Moghul and Abbasi khalifas. Is there nobody in the PPP who could guide the party’s leadership to refrain from indulging in activities as a result of which the political graph of Bhutto’s family has been going down in the eyes of the common man. Why are PPP leaders like Aitzaz, Kaira, Yousaf Raza Gillani don’t react to such like incidents which are making a mockery of the claim of the PPP leadership that their party is a party of the have-nots? The tragedy is that the have-nots are so gullible that they are easily misled by the wily politicians at the hustings after every four or five years. They are taken in by the crocodile tears shed by these cunning politicians over their woes and they readily believe their promise that once in power they would undertake welfare schemes ameliorating their lot.
Till how long would the political charlatans continue to deceive the man in the street and till how long would the latter allow himself to be hoodwinked? After all there is a limit to everything.
