QUETTA, May 2: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday arrived in Quetta and inaugurated several development projects, promising to bring economic stability in Balochistan. The Prime Minister, after performing groundbreaking of gas supply and road projects in the provincial capital, addressed a ceremony at Governor House. “Political stability is vital for progress, so investment is impossible in atmosphere of protest and anarchy,” the PM said, referring to opposition’s protest rallies.
Nawaz Sharif is under tremendous pressure from opposition to step down since his family members were named in the mass leak of offshore account data from the Panama firm Mossack Fonseca.
To probe the Panama Papers, the PM has announced formation of judicial commission under Chief Justice of Pakistan, but the opposition is not satisfied with terms of references (TORs) for the commission.
Nawaz Sharif said the commission would investigate all allegations to make the situation clear. “I advise my opponents to wait till 2018, and even beyond it,” the PM said, claiming that his government has curbed financial and energy crisis.
He affirmed that load-shedding and gas shortage would completely end in 2018. About Pakistan China Economic Corridor (CPEC), the PM hoped that the project would bring a ‘political revolution’ to Pakistan, especially in Balochistan.
Commenting on ongoing anti-criminal crackdown in Karachi, the PM said “nation is unitedly fighting war against terrorism,” affirming security in the city would not be compromised. Earlier, the PM inaugurated Prime Minister’s Health Programme for Balochistan’s Quetta, Loralai, Turbat and Lasbela districts. Under the programme, 300,000 poor patients would avail free medical treatment.
During his day-long visit, the PM inaugurated a project of gas supply to Inayatullah Karez Gulistan, Mastung, Kalat and adjoining areas. He also laid foundation stone of a transmission line from Loralai to DG Khan, besides performing ground breaking of construction of underpasses on Brewery Road at Golimar Chowk and Zarghoon Road.
On arrival, he was received at the airport by Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and members of the provincial cabinet. It is said that initially, the program will be launched in Quetta, Loralai, Turbat and Lasbela. -DNA
