Mawra Hocane isn’t just praying for herself. She says she always has her co-star Harshvardhan Rane in her prayers. Mawra will be making her debut opposite Harshvardhan in Sanam Teri Kasam which is scheduled for release next month. The actress who is delighted to be making her debut in the Hindi film industry is from Pakistan but has been living in Sydney for the past couple of years along with her parents.
Mawra who has completed her pre-medicals and is pursuing LLB at the moment is a star of sorts in Pakistan. She isn’t new to television buffs in the neighbouring country and had also earned some fame when she tweeted against banning of Saif Ali Khan starrer Phanton in the country. In India she caught eye balls when Ranbir Kapoor sent her video message on Instagram.
“I cannot judge a country. I fall in love with the people and the place each time I visit a new place. India for me is an experience and I am loving every bit of it,” says the actor who seems to be a bit anxious waiting for the release of Sanam Teri Kasam.
As an actor Mawra says she isn’t new to the camera, and she’s thankful to her television stint and fans for giving her the confidence. “On the sets my co star was my biggest support. Harsh turned out to be an extremely nice person who was helpful, accommodative and very supportive as a co star. He is hard working and like me wants to give his best for all the shots,” adds Mawra who says she loved the fact that in her debut movie she got to be a nerd, a drunkard, dancer and everything.
Describing her role in the movie without saying one bit of the story, Mawra says the character is very simple and loving and she purely bagged the role because her mother thought ‘I fit the role when Radhika mam, a friend of my mother narrated the character to her’. “Since I have already acted in a few serials I could skip the screen test and here I am,” she giggles.
Also a VJ and a model, a lot of the confidence for the camera she says came from her years of experience on TV. “But I wasn’t sure I wanted to be an actor. Besides stray instances of acting in school and college I hadn’t prepared myself to be an actor. But I guess all that experience paid off well. I should also say, the team has been extremely loving and now they are my ‘Sanam teri kasam family,’ says Mawra.
As for future projects, “I am waiting for my first release and then let’s see how I score with my debut. Hopefully we will rock,” she signs off.
