Two kinds of graveyards in the country

The ‘inhuman’ water shortage in Karachi is a huge slap on the face of that coterie of leaders in the country which is day and night engaged in advertising the nation’s giant steps forward in the direction of unparalleled progress and prosperity because of its round-the-clock service and hard work.

I have used the term ‘inhuman’ for the simple reason that human civilization is dependent on water to drink, air to breath, and health to preserve. The abominable insensitivity of the rulers who are responsible for the said water shortage in Karachi is reflective of the overall character of the country’s political leadership. It is not just Karachi the residents of which are fighting for survival on the water front, the plight of the rest of the country can be regarded as ‘not less catastrophic’.

The rulers of this country have not only lost their way in determining their priorities but also found a convenient method of hiding behind a translucent wall of lies, falsehood and deception. The method they have chosen is “Advertising”. Projects are launched on paper. The power-holders inaugurate these projects in pompous ceremonies that are given media coverage at a huge scale. Then follows an advertising blitz by which the people of this country are rattled, and the favoured contractors engaged in these projects start knowing the meaning of the term ‘windfall’.

This country is being squeezed ‘dry’ at a pace, and on a scale that can make the rest of the world shudder if the hideous facts are known.

Life in the palatial surroundings where these rulers of ours—these artists of deceit and inhuman insensitivity breath— definitely can dwarf the life that Camerons and Obamas of the world enjoy, but the people of this country are fast running out of water. Soon they may run out of air too. There are two kinds of graveyards in the country — (A) those where human beings are buried and (B) where the consciences of the ruling classes have been put to eternal rest.
