If the PPP leadership is still sleeping it must awaken now to hard political ground realities of today:It has been devastated through and through in the recent Islamabad’s Local Bodies election despite the fact that quite recently two prime ministers and one president belonging to this party ruled the roost in the federal capital for good five years. What does it mean? It means that the common man has rejected
Its brand of politics. The PPP leaders have been fond of saying that they don’t believe in courts’decisions on their credibility;it is the people’s verdict that counts. Well the people have now given their latest verdict in Islamabad’s Local Bodies election quite clearly.
The JI had also worked hard in the federal capital in these elections but its candidates too have been routed. The other religious outfits suffered the same fate. One wonders why the ANP didn’t show any interest in these polls in the federal capital. The PTI has emerged as a potent threat to the ruling party at the centre and this is going to give many a sleepless night to the prime minister.
Where are the so-called leaders of the PPP like Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Aitzaz Ahsan, Farzana Raja, to mention a few ? They didn’t actively participate in the function held at Memon Goth Karachi on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the PPP on November 30th 2015? Were they intentionally sidelined by Bilawal or was there other reason for their indifference to that momentous occasion? It would have been better had Bilawal, in his speech on the occasion, remembered the pioneering leaders and workers of his party by taking their names as they had been instrumental in the creation of the PPP 49 years back for the amelioration of the lot of teeming millions. Alas they were forgotten. Their successors were not a patch on them. It would have added to the stature of PPP’s leadership if it had invited the surviving workers of the party who had attended its first session 49 years ago and awarded them gold medals for their loyalty to the cause of the party!
