There is no denying the fact that both kinds of crime in the country— white collar as well as blue collar— require a ruthless response from the custodians of law and order, to be quashed or eliminated to a reasonable degree.
Precisely why the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government was forced to enforce the anti-terrorism law i.e Protection of Pakistan Act (POPA) a couple of years back.
The period for which this law was enforced has come to an end, but the COAS is on record to have announced recently that the perpetrators of all kinds of terror and their facilitators would have to be fully eliminated to bring about change in the country’s economic environment and the society’s peace of mind. Quite clearly, though the Rangers in Karachi have achieved a lot in the pursuit of the above goal, a lot more needs to be done.
Infact the forces of ‘crime’ had been waiting for the above law to expire, so that they could get a new lease of life, and a new license to pursue their sinister designs.
It seems that the political parties in the province of Sindh and the Centre (which are in power) are keen to twist the arms of the Military before they express their willingness to extend the life of the above-mentioned Law.
It will be suicidal on the part of these parties to play ‘politics’ on this ground.
We all know that 58 (2b) was a law that used to serve as a safety valve against the enforcement of the well-known and well-understood Law of Necessity.
If the POPA is not re-confirmed in quick time, the results could be disastrous for this fake democratic order. The Nation is yearning for more stringent measures to root out corruption and all other crimes associated with it.
