By putting up excellent performances at the Lords in the first test match against England, Yasir Shah,Sarfaraz,Mohammad Amir and Asad Shafique have proved Shahid Afridi wrong who had said on the eve of Pakistan team’s tour of England that it has no talent. That statement of his,to many, appeared to have been given in bad taste and many cricket fans were not amused by it. That statement also smacked of self-praise. Heavens have not fallen if Shahid Afridi is no more a part of our test team.
Let us admit that our boys, both old and new, played well in the Lords and did give a tough time to England team which had the advantage of playing on its home ground. On paper too the host team had better players. It seems that hard physical exercise of our boys at Kakul at the hands of our armymen prior to their departure to England and their coaching by the new foreign coach has been yielding a positive result for our team. If it would play in the remaining matches of their present tour with the same zeal, grit and determination which it showed in the first test the end result can be in its favour. Those Pakistani players who will shine with the bat and ball during the present tour of England are likely to make a permanent place for themselves in Pakistan ‘s team for many years to come as true worth of a cricketer is known by measuring his performance on English wickets on which only the best can survive whether he is a bowler or a batsman.
POSTSCRIPT: Bilawal has a point there when he says Nawaz Sharif has been soft-pedalling on the issue of atrocities being committed in the occupied valley of Kashmir by the Indian occupation army stationed there. If the PM had, after a long silence uttered a few words in the matter,it was only after he was subjected to a lot of criticism by the opposition that he was mum on it. He has not been able hitherto to convince the nation as to why didn’t he appoint a fully -fledged foreign minister in his cabinet?
