- Calls National Security Council meeting today
ISLAMABAD, July 21: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday finally resumed his official responsibilities in capital after two months.
The Prime Minister reached Islamabad after staying away from Prime Minister House almost 60 days in wake of his open heart surgery carried out in London.
He, along with his family, traveled by helicopter from Jati Umrah to Lahore airport and then flied to Islamabad by special plane.
He would preside over the National Security Council meeting today (Friday).
The Prime Minister had undergone a heart surgery in London in May and returned to Lahore this month on the advice of his doctors after recuperating from surgery.
Since his arrival on July 9 from London, the prime minister was running official affairs of the country through a camp office in Lahore.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was due to arrive in Islamabad on Monday but had developed an infection in his leg and could not travel to the capital
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has summoned a session of the National Security Council today (Friday) to discuss matters pertaining to external security, the deteriorating situation in the Indian-held Kashmir and national security.
The Prime Minister will preside over the NSC meeting which will also be attended by Defence Minister, Finance Minister, Minister of Interior and Information Minister. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, heads of armed forces, DG ISI, DG IB will also attend the meeting.
The matters related to the National Action Plan, operation Zarb-e-Azb, and Karachi operation would also come under discussion.
External matters such as the worsening security situation in the occupied Kashmir since the death of commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani and the border skirmishes with Afghanistan in the last month would also be discussed. The meeting would focus on formulating a national policy vis-à-vis these matters, sources added.
Violence escalated in the occupied Kashmir since Burhan Wani’s death on July 8th, as Indian atrocities left 50 people dead in the valley.
Prime Minister Nawaz Prime had highly condemned the brutality by the Indian forces and had said on Wednesday that Kashmir was not India’s internal issue.
“We are standing with the people of Kashmir at this hour of need,” he had said.-Online/ Sabah
