My today’s echoes of the heart start with Imran Khan’s tweet.
“Even though traditionally party in power in Islamabad tends to win AJK elections, I would still like to congratulate PMLN for its AJK win.”
This probably was the only sane and respectable way the PTI chief could respond to the thumping victory of the PML (N) in AJK elections. Particularly after having chosen to put an acknowledged TURNCOAT in command of his party in the AJK. I have lost count of the number of times, Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has changed his political loyalties. He is a classical example to prove that political leadership in our country is not characterized by any ideology or principles, but by shameless opportunism and unscrupulousness. I hope the PTI chief learns a lesson or two from his experiences till now and from the experiments he has made on the basis of not his own judgment but of the advice available to him. One great flaw in any leadership can be, and often is that the advice available often is rooted in selfish motives— and sheer incompetence.
Even though the PML(N) has an unenviable reputation of winning any elections even before the first vote is cast, the AJK victory can simply not be credited only to the efficiency of Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s cell and Pervez Rasheed’s on-the-spot management. The margin of victory for the PML(N) is so overwhelming that one can’t but accept that the sheer incompetence and irreversible corruptibility of the PPP leadership has made the PML (N) the only available alternative. It will require the PTI some effort and intelligent strategy to effectively challenge the deep-rooted influence of the PML (N) propaganda.
On the face of it, it looks as though Modi’s BJP has won in the AJK, considering the warm relationship between our Prime Minister and India’s Prime Minister. But the more rational analysis will be that the more organized devils have defeated the devils in disarray. There is little to choose from the available stuff of political personnel available all over the country— including the AJK.
