ISLAMABAD, August 16: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad filed a disqualification reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday. Sheikh Rashid filed the disqualification reference against PM Nawaz Sharif with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Sheikh Rashid said that the disqualification reference against Nawaz Sharif consisted of 162 pages. Sheikh Rashid also disclosed that he had made the disclosures of the Panama Papers the basis of the disqualification reference.
“I have requested the Speaker to play his constitutional role with impartiality,” said Sheikh Rashid.
Details of Prime Minister’s nomination papers and statement of assets from 2013 to 2016 have also been mentioned in the reference.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was given full chance to present himself for accountability. He has committed money laundering and tax evasion,” he said.
Sheikh Rashid further said the ball is now in the National Assembly Speaker’s court.
“We have requested the Speaker to disqualify PM Nawaz under the law and constitution within 30 days,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with speaker National Assembly.
It was demanded through the reference that Nawaz Sharif should be disqualified on the basis of Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution as he concealed details of his assets in the nomination papers submitted for 2013 general elections.
The reference contained over 200 pages as various evidences and other documents were attached with it.-Sabah
