The recent news report that India has set up a special Balochistan Cell in the RAW aimed at providing money and training to Balochistan mavericks living in Iran, Afghanistan, Canada and UK for carrying out subversion inside Baluchistan cannot be brushed aside lightly. This makes it all the more important for us to strengthen our control on the Pak-Afghan border whether it is in Balochistan or the KPK. Only through a very effective check on our borders can we foil the ugly designs of our enemies.
Cosmetic border management is not going to solve the matter. Setting up of a new check post in Torkham was a good start in the right direction but many more such check posts need to be established along the Durand Line on all such vantage points and routes which can possibly be used by the pedestrians to enter into Pakistan from Afghanistan or Iran.
The government should also, at once, return all the Frontier Constabulary platoons to KPK requisitioned by it for law and order duties elsewhere in the country in aid of police so that they could be placed on duty on the border line of the settled area with the FATA.
The MQM chief Altaf Hussain has, so many times in the past, got away with lightly in the past by indulging in crimes against the state and then apologising for them. This seems to be his habit now. This time round no leniency or political expediency should be shown to him by whatever he has done on 22nd August 2016. His direction to his partymen to attack some media houses in Karachi and chanting of anti-Pakistan slogans as a result of which hooligans in his party carried out physically his diktat amounted to open rebellion against the state which cannot be condoned. The prime minister has rightly said that he will have to pay dearly for every word he uttered against Pakistan. Let us hope the PM keeps his word.
