
PESHAWAR, September 11: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has underlined the need for collective efforts to have a pro poor system of governance, corruption-free public dealings, supremacy of merit and getting rights of the province. CPEC became a silent corridor. He said no one knew when and where projects would be initiated under the CPEC. It seemed that the entire amount of 36 billion dollars were being spent in Punjab alone. He agitated against it and succeeded in getting some projects for the province, he added.
He was talking to the members of visiting delegation of National Management College Lahore.
High ranking officials of the provincial government were also present. Chief Minister took questions of visiting delegates and responded.
The Chief Minister on a question said that a true and successful system was the one under which institutions worked efficiently and there was no political interference. Unfortunately, when he took over, public sectors institutional were in total disarray. He took upon himself to overhaul the entire system and made the public sectors institutions subservient to the public aspirations. He said his government introduced a set of legislations to ensure openness and transparency in the governance related functions. He referred to the right to information, right to services and conflict of interest that would eliminate corruption and corrupt practices in the province.
Pervez Khattak also talked about the reforms in education and health sectors adding that a major portion of resources were diverted to these sectors. The government efforts in these sectors led to a visible change. The government efforts were resisted by the agents of status quo but his government stood committed for the reforms in all public sectors institutions and succeeded.
Regarding police and Thana culture, the Chief Minister said that police in the province was politicized before his government. His government started depoliticizing police and changed the Thana culture. The reforms in police were followed by necessary legislation. His government on one hand depoliticized police but at the same time brought a check and balance mechanism to make police accountable. There are safety commissions at district, regional and provincial level so that the misuse of powers could be taken care of and the element of the accountability was visible. The ultimate goal was to provide justice to the poor, he added.
Regarding the mega projects in the province, Pervez Khattak went on saying that reforms in education and health sectors were the mega projects.-PR
