LAHORE: Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif stressed that the T20 International Captain Sarfraz Ahmed is a born leader and can take the captaincy role in all three formats.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is flying high after registering Pakistan’s first Whitewashing in the three match T20 series. Pakistan crushed West Indies in all three clashes after displaying outstanding cricket skills.
The Men in Green restricted the tourists to a low tally in the opening match in Dubai. They grabbed crucial wickets and gave away fewer runs in the opening six overs which led them steal the glory by nine wickets.
Pakistan carried their amazing form in the following two matches and after applying pressure in the first six overs, they easily triumph the matches.
In the second match Pakistan became victorious by 16 runs whereas in the last T20 they conquered by eight wickets. West Indies were coming off after winning T20 series against India.
Earlier this year they conquered the World T20 in India and were dominating in this format. Pakistan, who crashed out from group stages of World T20, were coming off by triumphing a one-off T20I against England.
They outclassed the World T20 finalists by nine wickets and the Pakistani openers alone did most of the job while they chased the low total tally.
Sarfraz has now penned down 100 per cent winning record as captain of the sub-continent side. In the second T20 in Dubai, the wicketkeeper-batsman contributed crucial score.
Throughout the series, Sarfraz affected the dismissals with his gloves and his presence brought positive energy in the whole team. All of the players performed brilliantly under the leadership of the star.
While giving an interview Latif quoted, “Sarfraz is a born leader. His domination on the field shows and he has great camaraderie with his players.”
The former wicketkeeper stressed that the sacking of Coach Phil Simmons right before the tour and the unavailability of the senior players like Chris Gayle cost them the match.
However, he praised the Pakistani players whom he believed put up solid performances and dominated throughout the series.
Latif stated to media, “The West Indian team lacked quality, especially with the unavailability of their senior players and the last minute change in the coaching staff — Phil Simmons removal.
“Yet Pakistan must be praised for their performance since they dominated each of the three games and never relinquished their grip on the visitors.”
Pakistan will now square off the Caribbean side for three match One Day International series starting from 30th September in Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The two sides will then face each other for three match Test series which will conclude West Indies tour to United Arab Emirates.
