LAHORE, October 1: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq said on Saturday that reference against Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan in accordance with the constitution.
Addressing the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors meeting at a local hotel, he said that all references received by his office had been forwarded to the ECP in accordance with the law.
I take decisions impartially according to the constitution, he added.
The speaker said that attack on the parliament was an attack on democracy which was embarrassing for the country.
He said that he gave extra time to the opposition in the assembly to discuss the issues, adding that opposition was given additional time to discuss the budget.
He said that there was immense pressure on him regarding the resignations of PTI members but he did not disqualify them, adding that it was not right to de-seat a person who had earned thousands of votes.
He said that he played his role to strengthen the parliament, however, it would take some time to make an ideal parliament.
Ayaz said that energy audit of the assembly had been conducted first time in the history and the assembly building had been switched over to the solar energy completely.
He said wherever he visited, the issue of Kashmir was discussed.
Discussing the China Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said that China and Russia were taking interest in the project, however, India and other counties did not want this project to succeed.
It is success of the government that Russian forces are participating in the joint exercises with the Pak Army, he added.
He said all appointments in the assembly, had been completed through the public service commission on merit. -NNI
