durdana-faridOne of the biggest qualities of Pakistanis is that we think from our hearts and one of the biggest shortcoming of Pakistanis is that we think from our hearts. Supreme Court today passed a judgment that Prime Minister will have to be investigated for Panama Leaks. And people went crazy in the opposite direction.
Let me do the honors and state some facts here.
Panama Leaks happened 8 months ago.
Panama Leaks was evidence not a conspiracy
TOR’s from government got rejected by the court
No agreement was reached between the opposition and government in over 2 months.
People started forgetting about the issue
The opposition started drifting.
RaiwindJalsa jogged the memory of some people
The call for Islamabad lockdown charged everyone who wants the corrupt government to resign
People responded to the call of PTI leader and started moving towards Islamabad
Today the SC announced the judgment about the investigations into Panama Leaks
What has happened in the last few days that was missing from the past 8 months? Public pressure, honest, persistent opposition. During this protest, the government locked down Islamabad, used the state institutions to stop people from coming into Islamabad, Tear gas, Baton charge, house arrests, forceful illegal arrests, harassment of public, use of arms, bullets against public despite the court orders allowing the protest from the opposition.
Imran Khan has been the only one who has been persistently and consistently voicing his demand and stayed true to it till the Supreme court finally heard the voice of the public. Now what logical reason were they left with to carry out the lockdown.
To be honest I empathize with the hurt of the people who were marching towards Islamabad on the call of their leader, even I would have been disappointed, but people who are opposing the decision are losing sight of the cause. They are the reason this order of investigation into Panama Leaks was announced before 2nd November. This is a victory.
Of course the government is playing this against Imran Khan and PTI. Of course PPP is joining in the voice. I was looking through the top news websites and NONE of them have the headline “Supreme Court Orders Investigation into Panama Leaks” there are some snippets on some sites saying that the SC has asked for TORs. However, ALL of the newspapers have “Khan’s decision to call off the Lockdown” some mocking it some calling it U-turn. This is excellent politics of distraction. Play on the emotions of the emotional masses and distract them from the main issue. This is how a victory is tainted to appear as a failure.
The cause is always bigger than personal fulfilment.
Think from your minds, rise above you! Celebrate this victory that came from a very big struggle and few major sacrifices. Think of the time you will be sitting in a better Pakistan telling this story to your grandchildren!
