A majority of our people are not well off economically .They live from hand to mouth. It isn’t difficult to visualise the hardship faced by them while sparing money for the college fee, uniform and books of their college -going offspring.
They expect from their children to devote hundred percent of their time to their studies so that without wasting any time they are in a position to find their feet and start earning a respectable livelihood for themselves. In their heart of hearts they dislike if any political party lures their children to politics and use them in furtherance of their political objectives by drawing them out on the roads. We have seen police lathi charging them. We have seen their broken bones as a result of which many of them becoming physically incapacitated for life.
Many political parties have formed their students ‘unions in colleges and universities. They are so strong that they hold the administration of their educational institution as a hostage .They keep weapons in their hostels. So powerful have they become that the administration of their college or university is helpless before them.
Granted that extra -curricular activities are a must for the students in order to provide them with an outlet for their pent-up energies but they certainly do not mean their engagement in national politics. For the development of their mental and physical health sports facilities be provided to the students so that they take part in the sport of their choice and prove their talent. Likewise, they need to be encouraged to write in college magazine and participate in debates which must be held once a month in which various social issues should be broached.
Needless to say that the teenage is such an age where a person listens more to his heart rather than to his brain. This is an ideal age to brainwash a person. This is a perfect age to turn a student into a suicide bomber or a drug-addict or a religious fanatic.
